If you find yourself homeless in Cork you should first contact the Homeless Persons Unit located at 3 Drinan Street, off Sullivan's Quay, Cork city. The Homeless Person’s Unit provides Supplementary Welfare Allowance, medical cards and GP visit cards as well as referrals to emergency accommodation and other services. The Homeless Persons Unit is part of the Community Welfare Department of the Health Service Executive. Community Welfare Officers hold daily public clinics for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The Cork Simon Emergency Shelter is located at Anderson's Quay. The Shelter accommodates men and women over 18 years of age and is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. There is always a high demand for beds at the Emergency Shelter, therefore it is advisable to present at the Shelter as early as possible during the day. The Day & Outreach Team is often the first point of contact for people who may be sleeping rough or living in unsuitable accommodation, such as squats, etc. The Day & Outreach team helps address people’s basic and immediate needs, including physical and mental health, personal care, food, clothing, income and protection from the elements. The team can quickly assess people's accommodation needs and link them to the most appropriate services. The Day & outreach team accompanies the Cork Simon Soup Run teams most evenings. When to contact the Day & Outreach Team: If for whatever reason you are unable to contact the Homeless Person’s Unit or present at the Emergency Shelter, or if you know of someone who may be sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.
