Schools & Colleges
Cork Simon Community’s links with schools and colleges goes back a long way. Over the last 40 years we have learned that keeping students informed about the causes of homelessness can often help in preventing homelessness in the first place. It can help students become involved in the solution to homelessness, building social awareness and contributing to good citizenship.
Cork Simon Community works with students in primary, secondary and third level education with the UCC Simon Society has experienced a resurgence in recent years and takes part in an active calendar of awareness and fund raising.
We have a variety of tools, activity packs, educational packs and projects that students can participate in, building their awareness of the causes of homelessness and in many cases offering students opportunities to be actively involved in tackling homelessness.
The work we do with students can often offer them an insight into a career in social care or encourage them to volunteer for Cork Simon – or other charities, when they turn 18 years of age.
Students often organise fundraising events in their schools or colleges, or participate in fundraising events such as the Santa Stamps Appeal, Bag Packing, etc.
A speaker from Cork Simon Community would be delighted to visit your school or college, speak to students and work with individual classes in whatever way is most appropriate for the school. Niamh Quain, our Education Sector Co-ordinator will be delighted to work with you to ensure a positive experience for your students. You can contact Niamh through the form below, by emailing niamh@corksimon.ie or by phone 021 4377 643.
