Training & Activities
Training, education, access to employment and other activities make up some of the key supports for people experiencing homelessness or on the road to leaving homelessness behind them. An Employment and Training Facilitator and an Activities Co-Ordinator work across all projects and services, liaising with external agencies and organisations where necessary, to help ensure people can begin to engage with the wider community and start building quality of life.
The Employment and Training Facilitator works on a one-to-one basis with people, helping to identify gaps in training and education and any possible employment opportunities. The Facilitator helps organise and arrange appropriate training, offering encouragement and advice to each person along the way. The Facilitator also liaises with employers throughout Cork, identifying any potential suitable employment opportunities for people using Cork Simon projects and services.
Funded by Pobal, the Employment and Training Facilitator is crucial in supporting people in their journey out of homelessness, building quality of life and facilitating engagement with the wider community.
The Activities Co-Ordinator also works across all projects and services creating opportunities for people to build self confidence build social networks and facilitate interaction with the wider community. Often people who are homeless have little or no self confidence or motivation. A programme of activities can help address that and offers an alternative to destructive lifestyles.
