“Activities are great to keep me busy – boredom is a problem when drinking. Loneliness and boredom are not a nice combination.”
Our A-Team – Activities Team – works to create opportunities for people to build self-confidence, build social support networks and interact positively with the wider community.
Working across all Cork Simon services, but with a particular emphasis on people who are hard-to-reach because of their challenging behaviour or dependency on alcohol and / or drugs, theA-Team develops an ongoing programme of activities that can often be a viable and positive alternative to more destructive lifestyles.
“Another huge help has been the activities everyday. Getting you to do things is good. Keeping me occupied. So you don’t have to get to think too much. They’ve also helped get me onto a FAS course.” – ‘Matt’
People who are homeless can often suffer from low self-confidence and lack motivation. The A-Team aims to address that; quite often participation in A-Team activities can be a doorway to participation in other activities, such as further education or training.
