Why you should Sleepout for Cork Simon

People sleeping rough need you

Rough Sleeping is the most extreme form of homelessness. Every day is a struggle for basic necessities. Every night is a struggle for survival. This is the reality for far too many people enduring life on the streets. Their survival depends on the kindness of strangers. Your kindness.

Join a community of people who care

Will you be part of a community that cares about every man and woman struggling to survive on the streets? Will you take part so that they can get the help they need, so that they know that Cork cares? No one should have to sleep rough. No one should have to depend on the kindness of strangers to survive.

Register your details to take part and find out more about the Sleepout for Cork Simon. Hannah is looking forward to hearing from you.

Where is the Cork Simon Sleepout happening?

What do I need to bring on the night?

Sleeping out at night often means encountering cold, wet and difficult conditions. Cork Simon recommends you prepare for the Sleepout by gathering the following items:

  • Sleeping bag – cold weather and waterproof sleeping bag.
  • Thermals – layers are the best way for staying as warm as possible.
  • Coat, hat, gloves, scarf, thick socks.
  • A fully charged phone.

Depending on your location, you might also need to consider:

  • Water / snacks.
  • A sheet of cardboard for ground cover.
  • A torch.

Make sure to consider the conditions and requirements unique to your Sleepout location.

How do I fundraise?

Set-up your iDonate page.

Let everyone in your community know you are participating in the Cork Simon Sleepout.

You could also organise a fundraising event!

How much money do I need to raise?

In setting a fundraising target consider a goal that is realistic for you. Share with your supporters how your fundraising efforts make a difference to men and women who are homeless through access to Cork
Simon Community Emergency Services.

Every euro you raise makes a difference to someone experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough. Increasing your fundraising will help to give people the best possible chance of getting off the streets.

The more you raise, the bigger the impact – but here is an idea of the difference the money* you raise can make:

  • €250 – a warm drink, a sleeping bag and making sure someone is checking-in.
  • €500 – clean clothes, a nourishing meal, a warm shower, access to healthcare, a listening ear from the Cork Simon Day Service team or volunteers at the Cork Simon Soup Run.
  • €1,000 – helps us to work intensively with someone to understand their journey into homelessness so we can understand their best route out of homelessness; a Cork Simon staff member in their corner.

*Figures serve to demonstrate how money raised makes a difference to men and women who are homeless and do not represent actual costs.

How do I set-up an iDonate page?

Visit the iDonate Cork Simon Sleepout 2025 page and click ‘start fundraising’.

You can set up a fundraising page as an individual or as a group.

Personalise your page by choosing ‘edit page’ and adding your own profile picture, some information about your fundraising and the official Cork Simon Sleepout branding, which we can provide to you.

Don’t forget to share your iDonate fundraising link with your community and ask people to donate and support your Sleepout for Cork Simon!

Where will the money I raise go?

The money you raise by participating in Sleepout for Cork Simon will be spent in the weeks after the Sleep Out as winter approaches.  It will ensure more people get the support that they need at the hardest time of year.

None of our Emergency Services are fully funded and every cent you raise will ensure we can continue supporting someone already accessing services. It will also help make sure more people who need support can access it

How do I make my Cork Simon Sleepout fundraiser a success?

Reach out to family, friends, colleagues and anyone you think may want to support your fundraising to give them the opportunity to donate.

What do I need to know about Health & Safety?

Your health and safety are of the utmost importance throughout your Sleepout. Make sure you plan well and consider all eventualities.

If you are organising a Cork Simon Sleepout in your own location, please make sure you have considered all the necessary health, safety and insurance requirements. These will be unique to your own location, set-up and participants.

Consider all necessary permissions and check that the location itself is safe and free from hazards. Inform your participants to be well-prepared. If hosting an outdoor Cork Simon Sleepout, check that you have adequate shelter and provisions. All minors must be under the supervision of an adult at all times.
